IF you break up their locked positions, you MUST detangle them completely, separate them into two distinct pieces, and then reassemble them.
THEN lock them back together again into their love making tangle of passion. (Let lovers be)

The Knotheads are an old school puzzle, probably as old as the industrial revolution. I just locked them into coitus, and gave them a name.
