ONE VISION
FIGHT THE NOISIA
To launch my small business, I decided to start a movement.
And for this, I needed to identify a shared problem.
What is the NOISIA?
NOISIA is that 21st-century phenomenon of 'infinite scrolling', a.k.a. 'endless searching', or most recently labeled 'doom scrolling', if you go down a particularly dark rabbit hole.
I know not everyone feels the same way I do about it, but I think most can relate to the NOISIA as a real social concern.
NOISIA is the digital quicksand of the 21st century: addictive, isolating, and designed to keep us locked in. We open our phones with purpose and end up drowning in content we never asked for.
The NOISIA is everywhere. Families at restaurants, coworkers on break, even toddlers in high chairs—everyone glued to glowing rectangles instead of each other. NOISIA is a social sickness, and it’s spreading fast.
NOISIA is the mind-numbing side effect of social media scrolling endlessly. It is the silent plague of the 21st century and truly a disease.
NOISIA is the contagious, infectious scrolling sickness thru social media that has become a social crutch.
NOISIA is extreme mobile channel surfing. Where the entire world is available to us, yet we choose to remain in isolation.
Think about how you personally feel after a long stretch of the NOISIA intake.
When you finally detach yourself and look away from your device, do you feel good about how that time was spent?
I know I don't. I am left with a feeling of eye strain, mental exhaustion, and disappointment.
It is a disappointment in myself for giving my precious time to this digital drug, knowing full well what a bad habit it truly is.
The NOISIA is any digital marketing strategy designed to keep you locked into their content.
NOISIA is everywhere! On the Internet, your social media platforms, and your streaming TV services. The smartphone just makes it too damn accessible.
NOISIA is that infinite feed of literally everything at once. NOISIA is the place where everyone has something important to say (or not so important) and everyone is talking, but no one is truly listening.
For all of us mobile couch potatoes, every time you land on a social media platform, you can quickly find yourself scrolling past your intended content, only to end up in a mindless, brain-numbing algorithm that was designed specifically for you and that is never satisfied.
The human brain can't take this constant bombardment, and somehow, we have to LET IT GO!!
I get so frustrated by the NOISIA, knowing what it is, seeing it happen all around me, falling victim to it myself, and desperately trying to break free from it.
You know what’s sad?
When my wife and I go to a crowded family restaurant, we always see a family of 4-5 sitting at a table, and ALL of them are nose deep into their phones. No eye contact. No words spoken. Even the babies have their eyes wide open, fixated on their little screens, self-absorbed on a stream of NOISIA.
It seems like a wasted opportunity to spend REAL quality family time together. It makes me want to walk up to their table, slam a fist down in frustration, and say "HEY!, forget the NOISIA, who wants to play a fun game instead?".
So much nausea from the NOISIA . . . I had to find a better way!
So I gave it a defining name: the NOISIA.
All I ask is that you start to use the term NOISIA to describe it in your own social circles. I think it is a good fitting word.
(and secretly, it is all part of my diabolical master plan to take over the world with table games.)
Games reconnect us. They restore honor, respect, and human interaction.
And luckily, the Witch Doctor has found the cure
All you need is the formula for the secret sauce.
These are the secret sauce ingredients.
Detach yourself from your phone.
Engage in any tabletop physical game.
Try Tic-Tac-Toe., played my way.
All you will need is:
A pattern shape provides order.
Some pawns, provide the chaos.
A competitive counterpart … that’s you!
And the right player’s mindset- Play all games with CORE INTENT and play always with ETIQUETTE.
Games could be made more accessible and playable by all if everyone understood the mindset.
It comes down to honor and respect. Who has the honor of the next move?, and respect for the spirit of the game, and respect for your fellow players.
So, imagine this, if a simple game board was set up in your office break room by the water cooler. How anyone could walk up, make a move and would have the wherewithal to leave enough information for the next player. On one coffee break you played as one color, on your next break you might play the other color.
It doesn’t matter who wins or loses. The team challenge is, can we complete a game?
We all win if you had fun.
The One VISION Project is the cure for the NOISIA.
One VISION is one game fan’s dream to make the world a better place thru the magic that games offer.
The first task on the One VISION project plan is to 'Start a Movement.' I hope that you will support my initiative by adopting the term 'NOISIA' as the new descriptor of the ubiquitous brain-sucking, endless doom-scrolling nausea. Spread the word in your social circles. Let's make it go viral!
If it does, MAYBE I will get a chance to share the cure with all. MAYBE someday, I'll be a good enough Toastmaster speaker to do a TED talk, because I think this is an idea worth spreading. And MAYBE, if I do someday get a chance to stand on the world stage, you as an early adopter, will be in my inner circle to appreciate it when at the end of my TED talk I will stand tall on a ladder with my spear and magic helmet and announce, 'I SWAYED THE WABBIT!!!'
It will be our little inside joke.
Maybe I'm crazy, or maybe I am sane, only time will tell.
But I can dream, can't I?
And THAT is the magical power of games. It is the awesome sauce to regain a social life and build human connections.
