The Tic Tac Tornado

A sampling of games that can be played on a small square grid.

The Tic Tac Tornado

The next time you play Tic-Tac-Toe on paper, don’t just draw the hashtag (#) sign, draw the 4 border lines around it.

Realize you now have a 3x3 square grid with multiple uses. You could play games on the 3x3 spaces, or the 4x4 intersections. The beauty of this game component is its versatility to expand or contract to accommodate several different games.

Now put down your pencil and treasure hunt for movable game pieces. Don’t buy them, re-use bottlecaps, nut shells, beans, sea shells, coins, or nearly anything can be used as Pawns as long as they have some distinguishing characteristic of uniformity. With a small handful of 3 different ‘colors’ you can play any of these games below.

After playing Tic-Tac-Toe, try any of these games on the same board.

Some are ancient, some are old school, and new modern marvels are appearing all the time.

Some start on an open field, others have preset positions, or some could have random placements to start.

The possibilities seem endless and the list will grow as I discover more.

Once you get tired of playing these game on paper or cardboard, lets talk serious monkey business.

The Tic-Tac-Tornado is a starter pack of a Fiddlesticks puzzle of games, including the first three listed here, a score disc, and a modular square grid of your choice of size. Pawns are sold separately, but I encourage you to repurpose bottle caps and corks for a never ending supply. All your family really needs is a bonafide RicoBoard to enjoy years of quality time together. It would truly be my honor to be your family’s game maker.
